Fattah al-Islam group was proved to be responsible for attacks in the northern Lebanon city of Tripoli last month when four army soldiers and three civilians were killed, along with 32 others wounded.

“Several members of a terrorist cell involved in the recent explosions in Tripoli have been arrested,” a Lebanese army statement said.

The army statement added that an explosive belt was found during the arrest operation which was carried out by a joint unit of army soldiers and internal security forces.

As-Safir said in its report that the cell members confessed about planning to blow up the internal security headquarters in Ashrafieh area, east of Beirut.

Security sources revealed that three Palestinians from Fattah al-Islam militant group were arrested, while the Lebanese leader of the cell Abdul Ghani Ali Jawhar is still on the run.

An explosion ripped a military bus in Tripoli, similar to one happened in August that killed 14 people, including nine soldiers and a child.

Fattah al-Islam fought a 15-week battle with the Lebanese army at north Lebanon Naher al-Barid Palestinian refugee camp in 2007.
