According to BJP leaders, Advani was scheduled to land at the helipad at Vikram Maidan at 10 a.m. However, the helicopter missed the destination and landed at Karipur airport, about 30 km away from the town.

“It seems the lapse occurred due to some false communication from the Airports Authority of India. We have not yet received any official version of what happened,” said BJP state general secretary M.T. Ramesh.

Police officials at the airport confirmed that the helicopter landed at the airport and remained there for about 10 minutes. Advani finally reached the town in the helicopter around 10.30 a.m.

Advani attended an award function at noon and was scheduled to address a public meeting in the evening.

The meeting is part of the Vijay Sankalp Yatra, a campaign organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prior to the coming parliamentary elections.
