New Delhi : Atif Amin, the alleged mastermind of the Sep 13 serial blasts in the capital who was gunned down in a shootout with the police last month, used a fake certificate to get admitted to the Jamia Millia here, police said Tuesday.
“Amin, 24, submitted a fake B.Sc. degree of the Allahabad University for taking admission in a post-graduate course in human rights,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh said.
He said the matter came to notice when one of the teams of the Special Cell approached the Allahabad University to verify Amin’s antecedents. “They told us that he was never a student of the university and no such degree was conferred to him.”
Amin and one of his associates were gunned down in the shootout with police at the L-18 Batla house in Jamia Nagar in south Delhi Sep 19. A Delhi Police inspector also lost his life in the gun battle.
The police has said Amin was northern commander of the shadowy terrorist organisation, Indian Mujahideen, which has claimed responsibility of a series of terror attacks in the country in recent months.
