Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has bagged two awards for fuel efficiency and minimum operational cost from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, an official said here Saturday.
The Association of State Road Transport Undertaking (ASRTU) awards were given by the secretary in Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Bhram Dutt in New Delhi Thursday.
“Amongst the 43 road transport corporations, we bagged two awards of ASRTU, which is governed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways,” UPSRTC chief general manager (technical) A.K. Srivastava told IANS.
The fuel efficiency award was given for conservation of diesel and engine oil while the award for minimum operational cost was given for low maintenance cost of buses. About 7,000 buses of UPSRTC ply through Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
ASRTU came into existence Aug 13, 1965 to bring together all the state road transport undertakings and help them improve their performance. The association has 58 members across the country and operates 115,000 buses serving 65 million passengers a day.
It is involved in promotion of public transport by undertaking projects for managerial and technological upgradation of the sector.
