“We are ready (to send back Subrata Bayeen) but this time it would not be an unilateral move because we have also lists of wanted persons which was already handed over to Bangladesh government,” Indian ambassador to Dhaka Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty told reporters in the southeastern port city of Chittagong late yesterday.

Inaugurating a five-day painting exhibition of young artists of Chittagong and Kolkatta, he said India earlier showed its good gesture by returning seven Bangladeshi terrorist to concerned authorities here.

“We want Bangladesh to hand over our wanted persons (separatist elements) like Paresh Barua, Jiban Singha and Ranjan Daimary and then we will return your criminals who are in our custody,” Chakravarty said.

His comments came as Bangladeshi newspapers gave a wide coverage of the arrest of Bayeen, dubbed earlier by Dhaka media as “top terrorist” while Home Ministry officials said they expected him to be extradited soon.

But Home Ministry officials today said Chakravarty’s comments were not “based on facts” as different Bangladesh law enforcement agencies arrested more than suspected 120 Indian criminals and insurgents since 2003 and many of them already returned home exhausting jail terms and legal process were underway to return the rests.
