The meeting comes after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati held a Muslim convention in the state capital last week and invited Nadwi besides a majority of Shia and Sunni clerics. However, Nadwi could not make it to the convention due to poor health.

The Samajwadi Party leaders met him in the campus of the college adjoining Lucknow University. Mulayam Singh clarified that his visit was personal.

“Please do not give a political angle to this courtesy visit as I only came here to inquire about his health,” Yadav told reporters.

Singh also said that they (Yadav and Singh) are frequent visitors to the college.

“We share a very cordial and friendly relation with Nadwi Sahab and and the SP has no political motive behind such visits,” Singh said.

Amar Singh once again demanded a judicial inquiry into the Jamia Nagar shootout in Delhi in which two suspected terrorists were killed and one was arrested. All belong to Sanjarpur village of Azamgarh district, 270 km from here.

“Our only concern is that innocent people should not be framed,” he said.
