Thiruvananthapuram : A group of students Friday began a unique project to record the voices of prominent Keralites like Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan and National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan on a range of issues to enable succeeding generations get a feel of life in the early 21st century.
The 24 students of the Sound Engineering Academy began recording and analysing sounds of 500 prominent Keralites. The first recording was of the voice of His Highness Utradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma, Maharaja of Travancore, who spoke on the formation of Kerala state which took place Nov 1, 1956.
“This is probably the first time such an exercise is being undertaken,” director and CEO of Sound Engineering Academy A.R. Vishnu told IANS.
He said: “We wish to complete the recording and then analyse the sound and its modulation in three months’ time. In January, we will upload this on the web. It would be a unique one and only later will the value of this be known.”
Sounds of prominent Keralites including Sashi Tharoor, K.P.S. Menon Junior, Anita Nair, ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair, cricketer S. Sreesanth and film director Priyadarsan would be recorded.
“We decided to embark on this unique recording marathon simply because as years go by the common man simply does not have any opportunity to hear the voice of their favourite personality. Once we are over with this, it would be available on the internet,” added Vishnu.
The Sound Engineering Academy runs two courses – a diploma for Plus-2 students and a post graduate diploma for graduates – leading to a qualification in sound engineering and sound recording.
