Chairman of Al-Aqsa Foundation for Waqf and Heritage Zaki Aghbariah said in a statement that “some Israeli quarters” were behind the plot to transform the mosque in the village of Salamah, located close to the ancient city of Yafa (Java).

“We will not allow the candidates of the Likud Party or the alike or any other party in the Israeli establishments to change the identity of the mosque which is an Islamic landmark near the ancient city of Yafa,” he said.

The foundation will resort to all “legitimate means” to face acts of desecration of the mosque, the authoritative religious figure said.

Arab natives of the village of Salamah had fled it during confrontations with the Jewish activists during 1948, when Israel was proclaimed.

The village is believed to have been named after Salamah Abu Hashem, one of the believers who lived during era of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the messenger of Islam. He was buried in it.
