New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia is gearing up to celebrate its annual festival of dance, music, debate, plays and lectures, called Talimi Mela (Educational Fair) from 29th October till 4 November.
The Talimi Mela will be inaugurated by Lt Governor of Delhi Tejender Khanna at 10.00 am on 29th October. The weeklong mela will feature dozens of exciting events, such as book fairs, book readings, poetry reading, street plays, music and dance competitions, painting and cartoon competitions, essay-writing and exhibitions as well as a string of public lectures.
During the Mela, the M. F Husain Art Gallery will be inaugurated by Satish Gujral on 29th October. The play Ismat Apa ke Naam by Naseeruddin Shah will be presented. Interactive session with Shabana Azmi will be held on 30 October.
Besides, the university will hold its Convocation, where honoris causa degrees shall be conferred upon Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Kapila Vatsyayan and Asghar Ali Engineer.
A Silent Peace March will be held on Secularism and Communal Harmony at 11.00 am on 5 November.
The university has appealed to all citizens to join it in making an Unbroken Human Chain. “Through forming an unbroken human chain all across Delhi we wish to spread the message of peace, tolerance, secularism and communal harmony. Anyone who wishes to express solidarity with us is welcome to join in forming a chain that shall include the entire city of Delh,” says a release from the university.
