Islamabad : The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has triggered rescue and relief activities in Balochistan soon after an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck in northern parts of the province in the early hours of Wednesday. The quake caused devastation in the areas of Ziarat, Chaman, Pashin and some other adjoining areas resulting in 35 causalities in Ziarat and four in Pashin.
A number of injuries of different nature have also been reported from the affected areas, NDMA said.
The Chairman, NDMA Lt. Gen. Farooq Ahmed Khan Wednesday informed President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani about the latest situation in Balochistan.
President and Prime Minister directed to use all the resources to help the affected people.
He told them the Authority is coordinating with Balochistan government, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), GHQ, Army Core in Quetta and all others concerned to make a concerted response for the help of affected people.
He said Army and FC teams are engaged in rescue and relief efforts, Army’s field hospital and helicopters are standby for relief activities and relief goods and tents are being dispatched to the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the Chairman and Senior Member NDMA have talked to Chief Secretary Balochistan and local authorities to extend all necessary help and relief items.
