Islamabad : Security forces Sunday launched a major search operation for two Chinese engineers who had been missing on Pakistan’s northwest for two days, officials said.
Police said two Chinese engineers from ZTE company and their two local employees had gone to Dir district in North West Frontier Province to work on tower of a mobile phone tower.
Their guards and driver also went missing in Khall area of district Dir and police said they had lost contact with their office two days ago.
No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
Police said that Chinese engineers had gone to Khall area for repair work on a mobile phone tower.
A police official said that they had gone missing with their vehicle while on way back after finishing repair work.
He said that the police had formed three teams for investigation and has launched a major search operation in the area.
The police officer said it is not yet clear if they had been kidnapped or they met with accident.
He said that the Chinese engineers had not informed local authorities in Dir about their visit.
Chinese embassy in Islamabad has also confirmed missing of two engineers and their two Pakistani employees. Sources said that Chinese embassy is in contact with the government over the issue.
According to a local daily report the engineers identified as Zhanggua and Lung belonged to Zong mobile company, who had been missing since Friday afternoon.
According to the report the Chinese had been picked by Taliban militants. There is no claim by Taliban.
A police officer Khurshid Ali said he has no information that Taliban or criminals are behind the kidnapping.
