During the course of his official speech Sunday to mark the 49th anniversary of the 1st September Revolution, Ghaddafi thanked both the Gulf countries for their efforts to permanently end tensions between Libya and the US, the state-run Emirates News Agency WAM reported from the Libyan capital Tripoli.

Ghaddafi had come to power in Libya Sep 1, 1969.

He said his country’s relations with the US have now become friendly.

“What is important here is that relations between the two countries are not marred by any aggression, terrorism, wars, bombings and raids,” he was quoted as saying.

Ghaddafi said all pending disputes and issues with the US were solved in a compensation deal with the families of the 270 victims of the 1988 bombing of a US airliner over Lockerbie.

He lauded his personal relations with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the “excellent” bilateral relations between Libya and France, which he said are based on cooperation and reciprocal respect.
