Ramallah : The International Quartet envoy, Tony Blair has said here that he understands the Palestinian calls for handling the Mideast peace process with care.
Addressing the most vital issues between the Palestinian and Israeli sides was very important, he said.
Speaking at his meeting with top Palestinian negotiator Ahmad Qurei Tuesday, Blair called on Israel to stop the construction of new settlements, saying that agreements for peace needs to be implemented on the ground by both sides.
The International Quartet is willing to play an important role in the peace agreement between Palestinians and Israelis, ending a long historical conflict, Blair said.
He insisted on finding means to support the Palestinian economy for the sake of the people.
Qurei, on his part, said Palestinians would not back down from their demand for a capital in east Jerusalem, stressing that no deal would be signed with Israel without fulfilling this term.
