Iranian plane makes emergency landing at Mumbai airport

Mumbai : An Iran Air plane bound for Tehran made an emergency landing at Mumbai airport late Tuesday night after its engine caught fire.

“After flying 90 nautical miles from Mumbai, the pilot informed the airport authorities at 10 p.m. about the need for an emergency landing,” a spokesman for Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) told IANS.

“The flight IR811 returned to Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport safely at 10:37 p.m,” the spokesperson said, adding that it landed under full emergency conditions.

“The pilot turned off one of the engines of the Boeing 747-200 aircraft after it caught fire,” an airport official said, requesting anonimity.

All 294 passengers onboard the aircraft are safe, he added.
