Islamabad : More than 15 people, including women and children, were killed Wednesday in a purported US operation in an area boardering Pakistan.
The US gunship helicopters fired at three houses in Angoada area of South Waziristan tribal agency, bordering Afghanistan, security sources told KUNA.
They said the incident killed more than 15 people including three children and two women while, several others were wounded.
However, according to tribal sources, US troops arrived in Musa Naek area near Angorada in three gunship helicopters. They seized the house of a local tribal elder, Pao Jhan, and three other tribesmen, said tribal sources, adding that they carried out the operation.
Sources said the locals heard voices of several explosions and firing. They said at least 16 people were killed, including women and children, and that two houses were completely destroyed.
The US operation in the Pakistani area comes a day after Rehman Malik, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Interior Affairs, said that the forces had missed a chance to arrest Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Al-Qaeda’s number two.
