Rawalpindi : The Special Judge (Central) will take up three corruption references against the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members here on Thursday.
The cases will be taken up by the Special Judge (Central) Shaukat Ali Sajid since there is no judge available in any of the four Accountability Courts in the city.
These corruption references are pending since July 15, 2000.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed an application seeking reopening of the corruption references against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and others members of his family on Tuesday.
Last month, the Judge Accountability Court Khalid Mahud had adjourned all these cases for an indefinite period.
The petition filed by NAB Prosecutor General Danishwar Malik has sought review of an order passed by Accountability Court about adjournment of the three references – Hudaibia Paper Mills, Ittefaq Foundry and Raiwind assets – for an indefinite period.
The PG NAB stated that the August 21 order of the Accountability court was based on an observation that the earlier submission of the NAB for reopening the cases in August last year had not been signed by the Chairman NAB.
The PG NAB argued that the previous submission had been made by Deputy Prosecutor General as a Competent Authority and the point that it had not been signed by the NAB chairman was not relevant.
He said the bureau wanted to reopen the proceedings against the accused.
