Abu Dhabi : A United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based company has managed to save the equivalent of 900 trees, 200,000 KW of energy and 1.6 million litres of water after it launched an environment-friendly strategy in January this year.
The Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) launched its ‘Re-use, Reduce, Recycle’ in January to coincide with the inaugural World Future Energy Summit in this capital city of the UAE.
According to statistics released by Dulsco, the UAE’s leading waste management and services provider, ADNEC has managed to save 900 trees, 1.6 million litres of water, 295,000 KW of energy, 88,500 litres of oil and 153 cubic yards of landfill space since then, the state-run Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
ADNEC is Abu Dhabi’s leading exhibition centre and is currently undergoing an investment programme, which will culminate in 57,000 square metres of exhibition space, 21,000 square metres of visitor concourse and 7,500 square metres of multi-purpose halls.
When the second phase of construction is completed later this month, ADNEC will be the largest exhibition centre in the Middle East.
ADNEC’s environment-friendly strategy has seen the implementation of various initiatives. These included appointment of a dedicated waste-coordinator and introduction of recycling bins and cardboard collection points around the exhibition centre.
“Being the most modern exhibition centre in the world, isn’t just about having state-of-the art facilities and architecture, it’s also about recognising our responsibility to influence behaviour in a positive way,” ADNEC group chief executive Simon Horgan said.
“Our environmental strategy has been implemented in response to the environmental challenges faced by the international exhibition industry and we hope that other venues in the region recognise the moral and economic sense of this approach,” he added.
