Youth dies while trying to catch relief packet

Patna : A youth was killed in Bihar’s flood-hit Saharsa district when he fell into the floodwaters and got washed away while trying to catch relief packets being air-dropped by an Indian Air Force helicopter, an official said Friday.

Amarjeet Kumar Singh, 21, a resident of Dehad village in Saharsa, about 250 km from here, fell into the floodwaters and drowned Thursday.

Singh, along with half a dozen youth of the village, was waiting for the relief packets to be airdropped by helicopters. ”He slipped and got washed away in the high currents of the flood waters,” police said.

A similar incident was reported earlier this week in Madhepura.
