Moscow : The holy month of Ramadan is an occasion for cultural and spiritual development for Muslim around the world, including those in Russia.
Director of Russia’s Islamic Civilization Institute, Saeed Kamelov, told KUNA on Sunday that Ramadan was not only a month for worshipping, but also a month for studying Islamic principles and the history of the religion.
Many scientific and cultural institutions make sure they translate Islamic works and issue new publications before Ramadan to enable Muslims to read them and discuss them at their religious gatherings during the holy month, he added.
He stressed that Russia Muslims enjoyed all their religious rights that they had lacked during the communist era.
The number of mosques and religious schools in Russia has increased, he added.
Kamelov pointed out that Russian Muslims received Ramadan with great joy and invited their non-Muslim neighbors to join them for “Iftar” (post-fast meals) and celebrations to enable them to learn about Islam directly from practicing Muslims, not through the media which sometimes presents false ideas about the religion.
The director praised the role of Kuwait in encouraging moderation, adding that the state attracted experienced Islamic scholars and intellectuals to find solutions for problems through spreading moderation and tolerance.
He also praised the efforts of the Asian Muslim Committee of Kuwait in issuing several Islamic publications in Russian.
