Melbourne : Australia is leaving no stone unturned to come fully prepared for their defence of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India. After Greg Chappell agreed to pass on his experience as former coach of India, Michael Clarke has approached Shane Warne to tutor him on turning wickets.
The spin-friendly pitches of India present a challenge as Australia tries to repeat its historic win of 2004, during which Clarke produced a mesmerising spell of 6-9 in Mumbai.
Australian vice-captain Clarke revealed that he was being tutored by Warne as he aims to repeat his magic of 2004.
“I spent four days with Warnie before I came to Darwin and did a lot of talking and going through field placements for my type of bowling, which I found really helpful. I will be on the phone to him continuously,” Clarke was quoted as saying in The Age Sunday.
Australia will lack experience in spin department when they travel to India. Spinners Beau Casson, Bryce McGain and Jason Krejza, are in India with the Australia A side and their relative inexperience on the subcontinent mean that Clarke will bowl more often than usual.
“When I get home, I’ll do some more work (on spin bowling),” said Clarke.
Clarke though said that batting will be his priority.
“I think my batting is my priority. I have always been serious about my bowling. I do believe I am a part-time bowler and I’m not going to try and be a front-line bowler but as I said, I think there is a role for me to play over there.”
