Raipur : The Karnataka government Monday offered to help mineral rich Chhattisgarh in the information technology (IT) and biotechnology (BT) sectors.
“Karnataka is in the forefront in IT and BT sectors, not only in India but also in the whole world. I am willing to extent any assistance to Chhattisgarh,” Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said here.
Yeddyurappa, along with his three ministerial colleagues and the chief secretary, attended a function here in which Karnataka government-owned Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) signed a deal with the Chhattisgarh government and the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board to set up a 1,200 MW thermal plant in Chhattisgarh at the cost of Rs.60 billion.
Referring to Chhattisgarh, Yeddyurappa said: “You are rich in coal, water and other minerals, we are in the forefront in IT, BT, higher technical education and medical education.
“We are also the highest producers of silk, accounting for two-thirds of India’s total silk production and our silk technology is world class. In these areas, I invite Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh to feel free for our reciprocation,” Yeddyurappa said in the presence of his Chhattisgarh counterpart.
Raman Singh said that since Chhattisgarh is a new state, which was formed in November 2000, it will surely need Karnataka’s help in technology and medical sectors.
“Chhattisgarh seeks better cooperation of resources between the two states for betterment of masses,” he said.
