By Xinhua,
Ramallah : A Palestinian group leader said on Tuesday that Egypt is intending to host a comprehensive inter-Palestinian dialogue next month to end the Palestinian division.
Bassam al-Salhi, Secretary General of the People’s Party, one of the left-wing political groups, revealed the dialogue plan while talking to the press about his talks with senior Egyptian officials early this week.
The talks with Egyptians focused on regaining the Palestinian unity, al-Salhi said, adding “the comprehensive Palestinian dialogue should succeed and time shouldn’t be wasted in order to end the status of inter-division between Gaza Strip and the West Bank.”
Egypt has recently invited leaders of several Palestinian factions and political groups for bilateral talks with each faction separately to examine their views over the resumption of the comprehensive dialogue.
The already invited groups included the Islamic Jihad and four left-wing parties of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the Democratic Front to Liberate Palestine (DFLP), the Popular Struggle Front and the People’s Party.
The two big rival movements, Fatah and Hamas will be invited for separate bilateral talks with the Egyptians before the end of September, well-informed Palestinian sources said.
Last summer, Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip, and its government was sacked by Abbas. Hamas reinforced its grip on the enclave, while the Palestinian National Authority under President Mahmoud Abbas remained in the West Bank city Ramallah.
