Amravati (Maharashtra) : In an exemplary verdict, the district and sessions court here Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old man to death for murdering his three-year-old niece after raping her in village Asra near here last year – his fourth victim of the kind in four years.
Judge M.V. Deshpande sentenced Rajendra Pralhad Wasnik to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping his niece Vandana Wasnik and life imprisonment for raping her. Rajendra has to suffer the sentences consecutively.
More importantly, the judge also sentenced Rajendra to death for murdering the child after rape.
The judge examined 19 witnesses in the case before pronouncing the judgment while three earlier rape and murder cases against the criminal are pending in different courts in the district.
Rajendra committed the fiendish act March 2 last year during his visit to his elder brother, Mahendra Wasnik’s home. He lured Vandana to a nearby forest with a chocolate and then strangulated her to death.
The pervert had raped and murdered his seven-year-old maternal cousin in Badnera near Amravati in 2004, a nine-year-old shepherd girl in a forest in Chikhaldara sub-district teh following year and a four-year-old girl in Daryapur in the same district three days later. The cases are pending in courts.
