New Delhi : For improving monsoon and weather forecasting in the south Asian region, India and the US Thursday signed three pacts for joint climate monitoring and prediction of monsoon.
Both countries have agreed to work together on three projects – Climate Monitoring and Prediction System for the South Asian Region, Climate model and Ocean Assimilation Analyses for the Indian Ocean Region and Development of the South Asian Regional Reanalysis.
The arrangements between the Ministry of Earth Science (MoES), India and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will help to advance understanding, modelling and prediction of monsoon.
“Collaboration of MOES and NOAA is essentially to develop scientific understanding of earth systems for societal benefits in areas such as weather, climate disaster and monsoon,” Shailesh Nayak, secretary MoES said.
Vice Admiral Conard C. Lautenbacher from NOAA said: “Both the countries have forged a partnership to enhance observations of the earth and use that information to benefit society.”
