Bangalore : The following are the highlights, other than on the India-US nuclear deal, of Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh’s address at the party’s national executive meeting here Friday:
* Nationalise the Amarnath Yatra route;
* All political parties must reflect on the developments in Jammu and Kashmir in the light of the row over land allotment to the Amarnath Shrine board and must agree to abrogate Article 370 of the constitution;
* If the BJP comes to power, Ram Setu will be declared a national heritage monument. Efforts will be made to get it listed as a World Heritage Site;
* The Congress turned “loktantra” (democracy) into “notetantra” (money power) by the way Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s government won the July 22 trust vote in the Lok Sabha;
* India has to fight terrorism in the same manner it fought Imperialism in the beginning of the 20th century;
* It is dishonest to say illiteracy, poverty and unemployment are the main causes behind terrorism. Today’s terrorists are educated, technically qualified and come from well-off families;
* Only stringent laws like POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act), enacted by BJP-led NDA government but repealed by UPA, can vigorouly fight terrorism;
* The UPA is soft on the banned SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India). The Congress and its allies like the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Lok Janshakti Party and the Samajwadi Party openly favour SIMI;
* BJP-ruled states are admirably combating terrorism while the Congress and its allies are soft on it for vote bank politics;
* Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence agency is now indulging in economic terrorism by infusing fake currency not only into the markets but also in the country’s banking system;
* The inflation rate may well be 20 percent if one takes into account the prices of commodities of daily use;
* China is continuously exerting pressure on India. The kind of construction activity China has undertaken in the Himalayan region and in Tibet can adversely impact the environment. The Indian government is not even raising such issues with China;
* Earmark a special area in the Kashmir Valley to rehabilitate Kashmiri Pandits;
* The government should inform the nation about how many farmers have actually benefitted by the Rs.720 billion farm loan waiver scheme; and
* More prominence for youth in the BJP.
