“We have identified some of the government employees who injured 12 police personnel during their demonstration for a salary hike at the Writers’ Buildings,” city Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty told reporters here.

“We have started a case against them for manhandling policemen and taking law in their hands. We are further investigating the case to find out more about the incident,” he said.

Chakraborty, however, refused to reveal the names of the employees.

About 300 members of 11 government employees’ federations and unions held a rally Thursday at the secretariat premises, demanding an increased pay structure at par with the central government model.

While trying to cross a police barricade, the protesters had a scuffle with about 200 police personnel.

Twelve police personnel suffered minor injuries during a clash, while the protesters alleged that police had hit some of their members with batons.

Police, however, denied the allegation.
