Kathmandu : The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) said that it had trained adequate manpower to provide first-aid services whenever the need arose, The Rising Nepal reported on Sunday.
According to the state-run daily, the NRCS has groomed 4,702 first-aid volunteers and 330 trainers in 48 districts of the country so far to carry out relief work at the time of disaster.
These trained volunteers are capable, skillful and equipped with all means if any kind of natural disaster and incident takes place in the country, Basanta Shrestha, senior officer of the First Aid Section at the NRCS said at a press meeting organized on the occasion of the World First Aid Day-2008 program here on Saturday.
Shrestha said currently the district chapter volunteers of the Red Cross Society in Nepal were also providing humanitarian aid aswell as distributing food packages to the displaced people affected by floods in some areas in the country.
He said that nearly 350 volunteers have been deployed to assist and provide medical as well as first aid services to the sick people of Saptari and Sunsari districts affected by the Koshi floods in eastern Nepal.
The society is marking the World First Aid Day by organizing various programs such as national level first aid competition, rally, mock demonstration of first aid service, and first aid training within 15 minutes.
The organizers have said that these programs will be conducted both at national and district levels throughout the country.
Currently, the NRCS has its district chapters throughout the all 75 districts in the country and has more than 1,344 sub-chapter offices in various districts, reported the daily.
