Tehran : Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, in a statement issued on Saturday, announced the country’s readiness to supply humanitarian aid to the quake-stricken people in Qeshm island in southern Iran.
An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted Qeshm island and Bandar Khamir in Hormuzgan province on Wednesday at 15:30 local time (1100 GMT) which killed 7 people and wounded 46 in Qeshm.
Some 100 houses in the rural areas were damaged by the quake.
The quake was epicentered in an area located in 26.99 degrees in latitude and 55.75 degrees in longitude.
The strong quake, which last about 30 seconds, spread panic among people who took to the street in search of shelter.
In its statement, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, expressed the condolences of the Venezuelan nation and government to the Iranian government and people on the sad occasion.
Iran and Venezuela have strengthened their political and economic relations in the recent years. Over 200 letters of understanding have been inked by the two sides on economic cooperation in different areas of industry, agriculture, and trade.
