Commerce ministry to receive feedback on tariff recommendations

Kolkata : A feedback report on tariff recommendations from across the country will be submitted to the commerce ministry this week, an official said here Monday.

“The Centre for WTO Studies of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade will submit a feedback report to the ministry on Sep 19 on tariff recommendations for sectors like chemicals, electronics/electrical products and industrial machinery,” Bipin Menon, deputy secretary in the commerce and industry ministry, said during an interactive session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Based on the recommendations, the ministry will put forward its demands during the World Trade Organisation (WTO) meet.

The centre at the IIFT is a professional body set up by the department of commerce to provide research and allied inputs to the government for negotiations in WTO and other fora.

It has already gathered feedback from New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ludhiana and Kolkata and will now go to cities like Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore.
