Dubai : In order to give its passengers greater access to destinations in Asia, Etihad Airways – the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) – has entered into a code-share agreement with Malaysia Airlines.
Under the deal, Etihad will place its two-letter ‘EY’ code on Malaysia Airlines’ flights between Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur and the popular islands of Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Kuching and Langkawi, according to an Etihad statement.
Malaysia Airlines will also place its ‘MH’ code on services operated by Etihad between its home base Abu Dhabi and Bahrain, Doha and Muscat in the Gulf region.
“We are expecting the new services to be extremely popular, particularly with leisure travellers looking for a luxury beach break on some of the world’s most beautiful islands,” said Etihad Airways chief executive James Hogan in the statement.
With this, the number of airlines Etihad has code-share agreements with has risen to 10.
It has similar agreements with India’s Jet Airways, Yemen Airways, Saudi Arabia Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Philippine Airlines, Middle East Airlines and UK-based airline bmi.
