Agra : Security has been tightened at historical monuments here, particularly the Taj Mahal, following the serial blasts in New Delhi, police said Monday.
Senior police and administrative officials reviewed the security arrangements at the Taj Mahal Sunday, following which additional security personnel were deployed.
Security has also been tightened in neighbouring towns of Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri and Etah.
Police sources said Agra might be a terrorist target since the letter ‘A’ is part of the e-mail password used by the Indian Mujahideen terrorist group that claimed responsibility for Saturday’s five blasts in New Delhi that killed 21 people and left 100 injured.
Reports of Indian Mujahideen’s connections with the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in Firozabad and Mathura were being investigated, a police official said.
