New Delhi : As Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi gets ready to hold a rally on terrorism here Friday, the Congress and the Left Thursday questioned his credibility to talk on terrorism.
“The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) is trying to project L.K. Advani and Narendra Modi as faces of anti-terror though they are responsible for indigenous terrorism in the country,” Congress spokesman Manish Tiwari told IANS.
Tiwali was trying to imply that the communal violence in Gujarat in 2002 had sowed the seeds of terrorism among Muslim youths in the country.
Communist Party of India (CPI) National Secretary D. Raja added: “What is he (Modi) going to say on terrorism?”
The BJP rubbished both critical views.
“The BJP, Advani and Modi are known for their credentials to fight against terrorism. Instead of levelling allegations, the Congress should work on a strategy against terrorism,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.
Friday’s rally comes just a week after a string of bomb blasts killed 24 people and injured nearly 100 in the Indian capital.
BJP leader Arun Jaitley refuses to believe that the rally is ill timed.
“The atmosphere is never fragile. It is absolutely the right time to have him (Modi) here. The rally is going to set the mood for general elections,” he said.
