Shimla : Normal life in Himachal Pradesh was affected as heavy rainfall and mild snowfall continued to lash the region for the second consecutive day Friday.
More than 100 vehicles were stranded on the National Highway No. 22 near Powari village in Kinnaur district, 235 km from here, due to landslides.
“We are working round the clock to open the highway,” Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner P.S. Draike told IANS.
He said Chitkul and Mastrang villages, which are close to the China border, received three to six inches of snowfall.
“This is season’s first snowfall and this time it’s quite early,” Draike said.
The higher regions of Kullu valley, including Pir Panjal range, Hamta ski slopes, Bhrighu slopes, Chanderkhani pass and the 13,050-foot-high Rohtang pass, gateway to Lahaul-Spiti, also experienced mild snowfall.
According to the metrological department, Shimla and its nearby areas received more than 111 mm of rainfall.
