14 killed in Thailand floods

Bangkok : At least 14 people have been killed in floods in different parts of Thailand, the country’s public health department said.

Most of the victims were swept away by flash floods, Prat Boonyawongwiroj, permanent secretary for the department, said, adding that around 36 provinces have been affected in the deluge for past nine days.

Around 53,000 people are down with water borne diseases, such as cold, diarrhoea, and athlete’s foot, besides others, he added.

Most of the flood-affected areas are in the northern part of the country. The floods also displaced many people.
