Addressing a huge Suraj Sankalp rally at the historic Lal Parade ground, she said Madhya Pradesh had become a haven for activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Uma Bharti said the state was topping in corruption, molestation of women and other crimes. “Children are dying of malnutrition and those in the government are busy eating up the money meant for the welfare of poor people whose children are dying of hunger,” she said.

Asserting that both the BJP government in the state and the Congress-lead United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in New Delhi had failed to serve the common man, Uma Bharti said: “While the state government is neck deep in corruption, the UPA could save its government due to money power but has failed to protect the borders of the country.”

She alleged both parties were making attempts to weaken her party by poaching “my people”.

More than 100,000 people from across the state were present at the rally.
