Titled “Musical Fingers for Flood Victims”, the concert has been organised by city based music academy, Bangalore School of Music, to raise funds for the victims of Bihar’s flood who are still languishing in relief camps of the state.

Established in 1987, the school teaches various forms of western and Indian classical music and dance.

The concert will see four of Bangalore’s well-known pianists performing at Alliance Francaise.

“We have organised the special concert within a short span of time to help raise some funds for the flood victims of Bihar. We’re in touch with a few NGOs working for the flood victims, so that the funds can be sent to help the needy,” Aruna Sunderlal, founder member of the school and a vocalist, told IANS.

“Music has the power to heal. We hope that our gesture will help bring some succour to the lives of the millions who have lost so much in the recent floods that hit Bihar,” Aruna added.

The ticket for the concert is priced at Rs.150 each.

The duo of Louise Pinto and Rebecca Thomas will perform the famous Grand Rondeau by Franz Schubart and Les Preludes, the symphonic poem after Lamartine, while the duo of Nalini Suryawanshi and Rohit Sailas will perform Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Schubert’s Fantasia.

“As musicians’ it is our duty to do our bit for the society. Bihar floods are a national disaster and one and all should join hands to rehabilitate the affected people,” said Pinto.

Over three million people have been affected by floods triggered by a “furious” Kosi river in Bihar, over a month back. According to an official estimate, people from 2,451 villages in 17 districts have been affected by the floods in Bihar.

Although the official death toll is 60, residents fear many bodies are yet to be found.
