New Delhi : The government has appointed Arun Ramanathan as the new finance secretary in the ministry of finance, an official statement said here Tuesday.
“The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment of Arun Ramanathan as finance secretary and secretary of financial services until his date of superannuating or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the statement said.
Ramanathan, a 1973 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, was already holding the post of secretary of financial services.
The post of finance secretary was lying vacant since D. Subbarao was made the governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Subbarao had taken charge Sep 5.
Ramanathan dons the mantle of finance secretary when the Indian economy is grappling with double-digit wholesale price inflation at 12.14 percent for the week ended Sep 6.
High inflation has also seen the Indian economy’s growth decelerating to 7.9 percent in April-June this fiscal.
