Manali (Himachal Pradesh) : Four armed forces’ helicopters will Wednesday be sent to Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti district to help ferry out people marooned on highways there for the past four days due to heavy snowfall, an official said Tuesday.
“Four copters, two each of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, will carry out sorties on the Manali-Leh and the Manali-Kaza highway,” the official told IANS.
They said the copters would first identify the areas where the people were trapped and then rescue children, the aged and the ill.
“Since the helicopters are small, preference will be given to children, those who are suffering from high-altitude sickness or are aged,” the official said.
