The UAV crashed over the Jalal village in South Waziristan district close to the border with Afghanistan, the statement said citing a report of the Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR).

The crash was apparently caused by a malfunction, the military said.

The wreckage of UAV has been recovered from the site by security forces personnel and the matter is under detailed investigation.

Pakistan has reported several missile attacks in its tribal areas launched by US drones, killing scores of people.

The government has lodged strong protests with the US over the cross-border attacks and vowed to protect its sovereignty.
