New Delhi : The Delhi government Friday cleared a proposal for construction of 18 new foot overbridges (FOBs) across the capital.
The Public Works Department’s (PWD) proposal for construction of these overbridges was cleared at a meeting of the Delhi government’s Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC).
The committee also decided to release an amount of Rs.723.5 million for this purpose.
“The government is committed to provide safe passage to pedestrians across the city keeping in view fast-increasing and fast moving traffic with an aim to curb casualties on the roads,” Delhi government’s Finance Minister A.K. Walia said while briefing media persons after the meeting.
“The EFC has agreed to release fund for construction of new foot overbridges (FOBs), which would be constructed within 12 months,” Walia added.
“The FOBs would be pedestrian-friendly, modern and longer lasting. Even aged persons would be able to use them without any difficulty,” a Delhi government spokesperson said.
