Washington : Democrat Senator Barack Obama is leading the presidential campaign by four percent, reported Real Clear Politics.
According to the report, the African-American legislator is supported by 48 percent of those polled.
This is the highest margin reached between Obama and Republican candidate John McCain during the last three weeks.
Both candidates are performing a television debate, faced with the coming general elections in November.
Debate coordinators scheduled exchanges on foreign policy and national security, although experts predicted the battered US economy to be the leading argument.
McCain’s appearance was confirmed on Friday noon, when the Arizona senator announced his attendance.
The Republican candidate said he was focused on the search for a bipartisan consensus at Congress, regarding approval of a bailout to mitigate Wall Street financial crisis.
The government initiative, valued at $700 billion, is at a standstill in the House of Representatives.
