Manila : Around 4,000 Muslims residing in Quezon City will converge at the Quezon City Memorial Circle (QCMC) to join the worldwide celebration of Eid’l Fitr on Oct. 1, marking the end of the month-long Ramadhan fasting.
The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) headed by Secretary Hermogenes C. Esperon Jr. will be in the forefront during the Eid’l Fitr celebration.
Quezon City Mayor Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. has offered the QCM Circle as the venue for the observance of Eid’l Fitr, which was declared by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as a regular public holiday under Proclamation No. 1625.
Every September, Muslims around the world observe Ramadhan, a month-long period of sacrifice punctuated by day-long fasting throughout the month.
Belmonte has mobilized the QC Muslim Consultative Council, the parks development administration department, public order and safety department and other offices to help ensure an orderly and peaceful celebration of the Eid-l Fitr festival.
Jameel Jaymalin, council executive director, has been tapped to lead other local government units in Quezon City in the delivery of basic services to Muslim communities in Metro Manila’s biggest urban center.
The services include the implementation of Madrasah program of education in the city’s 12 public elementary schools.
The program also provides primary health care, summer jobs and scholarships to Muslims residing in Quezon City.
There are 33 Muslim communities in Quezon City, the largest of which is in Barangay Culiat, Tandang Sora.
