Patna : The Bihar government has initiated action against 222,000 suspected troublemakers ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in the state, a police officer said here Friday.
“Till date police have identified 222,000 troublemakers, who were directed to furnish bonds pledging that they will not create disturbance during the elections,” Additional Director General of Police Neelmani said.
Elections in Bihar have witnessed violence and booth capturing in the past. In the 1999 Lok Sabha polls, 74 people were killed. About 20 people were killed in the 2004 general elections and 158 during the 2001 panchayat elections.
