Agra : Security at the Taj Mahal was beefed up and a thorough combing operation launched late Friday night following a threat call that turned out to be a hoax.
Superintendent of Police B.P. Ashok along with troopers of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) started a check at all entry and exit points around the Taj Mahal. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in charge of security within the monument was also put on high alert.
The frisking of tourists and the search of potential hideouts in the vicinity of the Taj Mahal continued for over three hours.
The alert about the threat call had come from New Delhi via Lucknow. It was later found that the hoax call came from a 12-year-old prankster in New Delhi, the police said.
