Kolkata : Nine former Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) sympathisers Tuesday went missing from Bankura district of West Bengal but were traced when officials carried out a search in the area.
“Nine persons were reportedly missing form a particular village in Bankura district. People have gone to the area and are holding discussions,” state Inspector General of Police (law and order) Raj Kanojia said.
He said: “I have no idea about the identity of the nine.”
Meanwhile, sources in the area said the nine villagers were abducted by members of the People’s Committee for Anti-Police Activity (PCAPA).
PCAPA leaders denied the charge and said they had taken shelter at the place of their members.
“They were facing some trouble by CPI-M cadres at Sarenga village in the district. Thus they sought shelter from our members. They came to our place this morning,” PCAPA leader Shyamal Mahato told IANS.
“When senior district administrative officers came to interrogate about the nine missing villagers, they themselves came out of the hideouts and surrendered before them.”
“The villagers told the officials that they were not abducted by any of us,” Mahato said.
“All of them returned to their respective places after getting assurance from the district administration that it will take care of them,” he said.
