New Delhi: Expressing concern over communal riot in Pusad, Maharashtra, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) president Maulana Qari Syed Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri has drawn Maharashtra government’s attention towards restoration of peace. Government appears failing in restoring peace even as the riot burst out as a result of a provocative CD played in Ram Naumi procession enters third day.

In Evat Mahal district, the violence and terror ensuing in wake of machinations during Ram Naumi procession has spread to nearby villages and suburbs in which the communalist miscreants are victimizing Muslims selectively. A number of properties belonging to Muslims have been set on fire or destroyed and ransacked.

In spite of heavy deployment of police forces, it is curious that communalist miscreants burnt alive an old Muslim couple, Zamir Khan Nawab Khan (60) and Rzia Bi Nawab Khan (50), in Phulwari Village just seven kilometers away from district headquarters. Yet the police are trying to dilute the offence by mentioning it as a minor incident of incineration. The incident has enraged Muslims of the state.

Communalist hoodlums also damaged a Mosque in Pardi Village. Muslims’ houses and shops were ransacked in Bojhla Village. The Imam and Mu’azzin of a Mosque are reported missing but police are denying the mishap. Police have nabbed only 24 persons so far whereas sources tell that the persons affected in the riot far exceed this number. Four persons have been killed in the riot.

“Mostly they are Muslims who have been holding anti-communalism and pro-peace programs”, JUH president said while expressing distress over the failure of majority community’s social and cultural organizations in eliminating violence and extremism rapidly multiplying in the society, “RSS or other organizations never tried to propagate the message of peace. JUH will put this puzzle before the society with full force.”

In a letter addressed to Maharashtra chief minister, JUH leader Maulana Mahmood Madani has demanded effective action for protection of minority’s life and property as well as restoration of peace by posting more forces on the spot. He has also alleged that police are arresting blameless Muslim youths. “Muslims are being victimized inside their home by breaking the doors”, he said.
