Isfahan : A Majlis deputy on Thursday defended Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, saying the Islamic Republic needs no nuclear weapons.
“Iran’s nuclear program is fully peaceful and is used in scientific fields,” the lawmaker from the central city of Isfahan Mohammad Karim Shahzad told IRNA.
He said that certain countries, which use nuclear weapons, regard Iran as a threat to the world, adding, “The Islamic Revolution in Iran is based on human values and cannot threaten the international security.”
He said that these countries have no concerns about nuclear weapons but are worried about scientific progress of the Iranian people and other Muslim nations.
Although they confirm peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, they say that Tehran should depend on them, the lawmaker said.
He touched upon sanctions imposed on the country over the past three decades and said, “The sanctions led to progress of the Iranian nation. Iranians know how to counter sanctions.”
