Azamgarh youngster Kamran selected for Rajasthan Royals

New Delhi: Likely to be nicknamed Wild Thing or Tornado by his team Rajasthan Royals, 18-year-old Kamran Khan from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh will play in the second edition of the Indian Premier League to be held in South Africa in April-May.

Kamran, who is yet to play first class cricket, has been selected for the defending champions Rajasthan Royals as he impressed team’s Director of Coaching Dareen Berry in a recent Mumbai Twenty20 tournament.

Left-arm slinger Khan bowls at 140 kmph, and will suitably be given the nickname. His team hopes he will let loose a sort of tornado on the opposite teams in the IPL tournament. According to the role, Rajasthan Royals last year had given nickname to each of his players. When Graeme Smith was Rock Swapnil Asnodkar was Goa Cannon.

The news of selection of Kamran for IPL will definitely make the locals particularly Muslims proud as mainly it was their youths and youngsters who were detained and harassed following the September 2008 Delhi serial blasts. Azamgarh was described as atankgarh in a section of the media. The journalists who visited the district in those days had felt how sad and concerned the residents were with campaign to malign the district.

Kamran is the second Muslim cricketer who has set out to bring honor to his district. Abdullah Iqbal has already represented Uttar Pradesh in various domestic tournaments including Ranji Trophy.
