Sonkar, a Dalit leader, was found hanging from a tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur town early Monday. He was contesting against ruling Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Dhananjay Singh. Sonkar’s relatives have blamed the BSP for the murder.

Udit Raj rushed to Jaunpur soon after he was informed about the murder.

He has also sought immediate arrest of the police circle officer as well as the local police inspector of Jaunpur, besides removal of the district magistrate and district police chief who were said to have been alerted by Sonkar about the alleged threats to his life from Singh.
