“We will have a tough battle in the elections, but we have faced situations in the past when the opposition had virtually come together without an alliance,” Karat told reporters in response to the Congress and Trinamool Congress joining hands in the state.

The Congress and the Trinamool Congress have entered into a poll alliance for the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal. While Trinamool will contest on 27 seats, Congress has fielded candidates for 14.

On the question of the number of seats that the Left would get in West Bengal, Karat said: “We will get decisive majority of seats in West Bengal.”

Polling in West Bengal will be held in three phases April 30, May 7 and May 13. Results would be declared May 16.
